[Western red cedar/Pacific red cedar]

Habit:  Large, cone shaped tree – up to 30 m. In culture in Denmark from 1850. It has its origin on the American Pacific Coast.
Foliage:  Flat sprays with scale-like leaves in opposite pairs. They are green above and green marked with whitish stomatal bands below, and strongly aromatic, with a scent reminiscent of pineapple when crushed.
Flower: The male pollen cones are small and black – maturing to yellow. The female pollen cones are yellow to green and the seed cones are brown and 2 to 5 millimeters long and have a small papery wing on each side.
Site: Shade tolerant ant thrives on most soils. Prefers a moist and somewhat protected site.
Use:  Solitary, forestry and greenery
