Tsuga heterophylla
[Western hemlock]

Habit:  Large, cone shaped tree – up to 25 m. Introduced in Denmark in the 1870s. It has its origin in North America
Foliage:  Small flat, uneven needles with dark green upper side and two white stripes on the lower side. They smell of hemlock
Flower: Light green to violet cones that turn light brown when ripe
Site: Very shade tolerant and thrives on most soils. Not particularly resistand to wind.
Use:  Solitary, forestry and very suited for cellulose production
