SELECTION OF ROSES
At Højgård Nursery, we carefully test and select new varieties of roses – especially based on criteria such as health, growth, flower, durability, colour and fragrance – and not at least, it is important whether the variety is suitable for forcing in greenhouses.
Every year, a wide range of new roses from different rose breeders are tested – and only the very best of the roses goes into production. In addition to testing in the field at Højgård Plante Skole, the roses are also tested in a greenhouse in collaboration with DanRoses on Fyn – according to exactly the same criteria as above.
The actual production of the roses takes place at Højgård Nursery – from the seed beds in the nursery to the finished potted roses. The budded bare-rooted roses are sold for forcing in greenhouses, to colleagues or directly as garden roses – in Denmark and abroad.
